What is the difference between a 'Snow Emergency' and a 'Snow Route'?


A Snow Route is a designated roadway that is posted with a sign which states, 'No parking after 2 inches or more snow/ice accumulation'.  A Snow Emergency is declared by the city and there shall be no parking on ANY city street until the Snow Emergency is terminated.  A Snow Emergency will be broadcast over local area television, radio stations and on this website (see list below).  

How can I find out if a Snow Emergency is in effect for Anamosa?


The City advertises on television stations: KCRG, KWWL, KGAN, KFXA/KFXB(Fox) and on radio stations: KDAT 104.5, KHAK 98.1, KRNA 94.1, KFMW108, KOKZ105.7, KKRQ 100.7.  There will also be an alert in a red box on the top of every page on this website. 

Can I ride a snowmobile or ATV in Anamosa? 

No. Chapter 75.03 of the Anamosa City Code states:  No person shall operate an ATV or snowmobile within the City in violation of the provisions of Chapter 321G of the Code of Iowa or rules established by the Natural Resource Commission of the Department of Natural Resources governing their registration, numbering, equipment and manner of operation.  See chapter 75.04 of the Anamosa City Code for further information.


Can a person ride a skateboard or bicycle on Main Street in the business district?


No bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates or other coasters are allowed on Main Street from Scott Street to High Street.  See ordinances below:

76.09    RIDING ON SIDEWALKS.  The following shall apply to riding bicycles on sidewalks:

1.         Business District.  No person shall ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk within the Business District, as defined in Section 60.02(1) of this Code of Ordinances.(Code of Iowa,Sec. 321.236 [10])
2.         Other Locations.  When signs are erected on any sidewalk or roadway prohibiting the riding of bicycles thereon by any person,no person shall disobey the signs.

3.         Yield Right-of-way.  Whenever any person is riding a bicycle upon a sidewalk, such person shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give audible signal before overtaking and passing.

76.15    SKATEBOARDS,IN-LINE SKATES AND OTHER COASTERS.  Any individual making use of skateboards,in-line skates or other coasters within the City shall use them in a safe and prudent fashion and shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.  No skateboards or other coasters shall be used on any paved streets or alleys within the City, nor shall any skateboards, in-line skates or other coasters be used on the sidewalks of Main Street from the intersection of Main Street and Scott Street to the intersection of Main Street and High Street.  A violation of this section shall constitute a municipal infraction. First time violation of this section shall result in a written warning.  A second violation of this section shall result in the imposition of a $25.00 penalty.  A third violation of this section shall result in the assessment of a $50.00 penalty. Fourth and subsequent violations of this section shall result in the imposition of a $100.00 penalty.

How and where do I pay a parking ticket?

You may pay your parking ticket by check or cash at either the Police Department (during business hours) or at City Hall.  If it is after hours, you may drop it in the outside drop box at City Hall.

How do I pay the fine for a citation? 

A citation needs to be paid at the Clerk of Court office in the Jones County Courthouse.

What time is curfew in Anamosa?

A.  Unless accompanied by a responsible adult, no minor 14 years of age or younger shall be in any public place between the hours of ten o'clock (10:00) pm and five o'clock (5:00) am.

B.   Unless accompanied by a responsible adult, no minor 15 through 17 years of age shall  be in  any public place during the following times: 

  a.  Sunday - Thursday, eleven o'clock (11:00) pm to five o'clock (5:00) am each day.

  b.  Saturday & Sunday, twelve o'clock (12:00) midnight to five o'clock (5:00) am each day.

Can I get fingerprints at the Anamosa Police Department?

Yes, we can do fingerprints here during regular business hours.  If you live in the City of Anamosa,  there is no charge, however, if you live outside the city limits, there is a $5.00 fee.
